NOTES JUNE 2007
Back to the archives.

6-23-07 The wind was blowing something fierce again today, and it was "chilly" - 60 degrees. I spent the morning inside cleaning up this web site, while Don braved the wind and put a new plant in the hill.

Later, I came down and worked with Don on our new "coop" flower bed.

That took a lot out of us and around four we all hung out on the porch for a while.

6-20-07 A quick update, there's been so much happening it seems, I can't keep up! The biggest news is the latest addition to our little family: Spooky! She came to us on Father's Day Sunday evening, at exactly 10:30 pm. I was in the barn trying to talk the big boys (Bunky & Bonezee) to come in for the night, when I heard a little scratchy sounding "eauw"... A pure white cat sitting in the dark, and obviously very hungry.

It didn't take much to to coax her over to eat a can of food, and not much later, she was flopping down on the porch rug, begging to have her belly rubbed. I pulled at least 4 ticks off of her, and we checked her out for fleas (none).. Anyway, we got another cat.. More later as I'm running late late late, natch.

I've taken a million photos lately, but I've had no time to get things together. This last weekend was such a perfect peak of weather..

The iris's were exploding everywhere.

The garden is coming along nicely..

And of course, there has been a lot of holes played!!

6-14-07 One thing I've been feeling really bad about is that I've been really lame about my corrospondence lately.. there are quite a few peeps out there I've been wanting to write, send a package to, telephone or even actualy see in person! Some names include, in no particular order, and not exclusivly: Jill & Ray, NASH (been way too long little bro) & Eryn, Nye, Terry, The Reeds.. ok, I'm drawing a blank now that I'm making a list.. but I am thinking of YOU, who ever you are, if you are reading this. And I apologize for being so lame about being in touch!!

Bonezee is on the mend, and it appears that it may have been a whole lot of nothing.. at least that's what the vet told Don over the phone yesterday when she called with his lab results.. SIGH. Just dropped almost $500 on these cats in the last 3 months.. DAMN. We keep trying to just "let them go", but they just won't leave! Ha. (I jest!)

They say it's going to start getting "WICKED HOT" and this makes me happy. Right now it's still cool. And, naturally, I'm running late again. Got's to get to "work" and make the watermelon cups. Bringing SCRATCH in for an oil change today at 1:30.. I've got only ONE MORE car payment, and then SCRATCH is officially paid off! Then, Don always jokes, he'll break down and the real problems will begin.. NO! Fingers crossed..

Saturday, Don is playing on the Songo Queen, which is an old fashioned river boat docked in Naples, Maine. He and the band are playing for three hours, and half of that will be out on the water. I'm gonig, damn it. Should be fun. It's all part of the second annual Maine Blues Festival. Now, I have to go, for real. BYE!

6-11-07 Yep, I'm finally updating.. sorry for the delays here, been hard to sit down at the computer when the weather is so fine! Plus, the whole Bonezee thing was distracting, but we brought him to the vet last Thursday, and he seems to be doing much better. Phew! So, here's a few new pics from last week, after the rain and on a lovely, sunny afternoon.

Don's radishes coming up, and onions, lettuce, tomatoes, too.

The new gazebo tent (a gift for Don's Bday from Said) tucked in the corner by the fir tree.

Stoking up the grill for another tasty dinner.

Another view of the garden and the rhubarb as the sun sets.

6-4-07 Last Saturday was a great day. The best part was the muggy, humid temps.. and the sun.. I got up early and did some weeding and planting, and when Don got up, he decided to get in some mowing while the mowing was good. After a couple of hours, half of the back was done, then a light drizzle started. So, we jumped in Scratch and went down to Cornish to pick up a repaired bass amp. We picked up dinner on the way back, had a snack and a Grolsch beer, and with the sun back out, Don continued mowing until 6:30 (while I did some more edging and weeding), and then we had an amazing grilled dinner.

Sunday, however, was a whole 'nother story. The temp dropped to 50 degrees, and the drizzle of rain never stopped. Bonezee started back with his trips to the litter box, which totally bums me out. What to do now? Don ran down to town and bought a few cans of the old cat food, hoping maybe it's the new stuff that's messing him up. I was blue, so I decided to flip on the tube and catch a movie. Luckily, I found one that just started on AMC, "Pappilion" (or is it "Papillion?") with Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman, had just started, and Bonez curled up on my lap and I got lost in the riviting prison story. I'm totally blown away with Steve McQueen's acting, wowee, great stuff. And, of course, Mr. Hoffman, but I already knew about how great he is. There was one moment, though, during a Hoffman scene towards the end, when I saw shades of his characture from "Rainman", which of course, he made about 20 years later.

After "Pappilion", we watched the next movie, "Dante's Peak," a volcano story. It's was fairly formulatic, but still enjoyable. It was nice to just sit back and watch a couple of movies. Don't get to do that enough. After the movies we had a far less exciting dinner than the last night's steak tips and grilled shrimp with grilled potato, corn on the cob and a spinach, radish, tomatoe and olive salad (spagetti with beef kelbasa that Sai had left from last weekend, a garlic bread from old rosemary loaf), but that only proved the anticlimatic feeling of the day. And, there's another famous Kate "run on and on sentence" Seavey moment for ya.

So today, Monday, the rain kept up and pounded even worse, and the temp is still at 50, and we are pretty much OUT of propane.. oops. There's a first. So, Don bravely volunteered to grill the chicken, yams and green beans outside on the grill in the wind and rain. Because that's just the kind of cool guy Don is. Plus, peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches just wouldn't cut it.

WEEE!!

By the way, a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to SAID, another top-notch Totally Groovy Dude!! WAHOOOO!!

It's really raining bad.
