NOTES FEBRUARY 2008.

2-5-08 Ok, well it's a new year (I mean, 1998 was SO ten years ago!), and damn it, it's time for me to get with the program! So, I present to you my new BLOG! Now you can leave me comments, and I no longer have the spam problem I was so disgusted by when I had the "TALK" board (which was essentially a free-for-all forum). Hopefully, I won't be spoiled by all of the ease of blog life and I won't forget my simple HTML skills, but I have got to admit, the blog life sure is sweet. And it is the way to go now a days. It's even got an RSS feed and everything. Tee hee. NOT that I ever have that much of importance to say, HOWEVER, the important thing is, now you can leave me a comment! And I sure do miss that. No logging in or being a member required. Just spew. Go ahead. I can take it. Let's see where this will go, shall we? I'm curious.

Once I get it all sorted out in my little brain, you will see an even more slimmed down www.kateseavey.com, but don't worry, it will remain. For now, take a peek over at the BLOG, and leave me a comment, if you want. And thanks.

2-2-08 Happy Groundhog Day! I'm not even going to bother asking if the shadow appeared or not, I just now we're going to have six more weeks of winter. But that's ok, today I finally feel better and the sun is shining! Last week was sheer hell. It started innocently enough last Saturday, when I opted to push my weekend chores to Sunday and instead began a borrowed novel ("The Black Dahlia", by James Ellroy), only stopping in mid-afternoon to pull together a nice pasta dinner so that Don could have a hot meal before he left for his early Portland show that night. Around 5:30 pm, as I'm quietly reading alone in the house, the phone rings and it is Steve Bailey, informing me that Scratch is dead and he was with Don and getting him to the 6 pm soundcheck and gig. I called our mechanic up here and left him a message to expect a tow truck sometime after midnight, then their wasn't much left for me to do but finish reading and wait. Don and Steve got back around 1:30 am, and we stayed up talking until 3 am. Steve slept over and we all got up a bit too early. That's when I noticed the sure signs of a head cold coming on for me. Don had already been fighting a cold for a few days by this point.

It being Sunday, I couldn't call the mechanic and we only hoped that the AAA tow man did get our car to the garage, and because we had no car and nowhere to go, we hung around all day nervously, playing out all of the possibilties in our heads. Don was pretty sure it was the timing belt, and Monday morning's phone call to the mechanic confirmed that. I wasn't sure how long it would take for him to get it all done, as he is a one-man show, so I borrowed Dad's Suburu on Monday and got some errands done. Monday night at 5pm, the mechanic called and said it was all done. Dad gave me a ride down and Scratch came back running smoother then ever. I was relieved to not have to worry about rides all week, and went to work on Tuesday with a runny nose and a bit of a sneeze thing going on, but still feeling strong enough to work. That all changed on Wednesday morning, when I woke up with a rock in my stomach. I had heard about a stomach bug going around, and sure enough my worst fears came true. I spent the day on the toilet, with my head in the toilet and on the couch, sick as I've ever been in a long time. Thursday morning I had to call out of work again. Though I wasn't puking anymore, whatever it was still hadn't passed, and I was weak. It's not often I don't eat my dinner, and by the second day, I still had hardly eaten a thing and had no appitite. I thought for sure Friday morning I could make it.. I took a shower for work, but the sharp stomach pains and gurgling, blocked yuckies would not go away, and I had to miss a third day of work! Damn sucked. Meanwhile, the weather decided to mess up Don's plans to get to his gig in Portland, and he had to call out from his job, too! The driveway was sheer ice, and the car wasn't going anywhere!

So here it is Saturday morning again. I think I've gotten this bug to go away finally, and I'm slowly replenishing my energies. Don is out in the windy but sunny day, snowblowing the iced snow in the driveway with Dad's snowthrower. He will get to his gig tonight, and I'm finally able to eat. Phew! What a way to end the first month of the year. I'm ready for spring, and so are the kittays.
