NOTES DECEMBER 2007
Back to the archives.
12-26-07 Well, I've "survived Christmas" and I hope you all have, too. It was really nice receiving cards and packages in the mail these last couple of weeks from friends and family, and I enjoyed sending stuff out to people, too. Up here on the hill, we had a relatively quite time, what with smaller numbers and, who are we kidding, older, more tired folks! Everybody is working so hard these days, so a pat on the back to all of us, and let's all make a pact not to feel bad for taking a few minutes to ourselves to re-group, or perhaps even for just taking a short nap on top of your bed with your sweet, purring kitten curled up in your arms... ahem.
So, here we are at the end of another year. So much has happened, and it's only going to get more crazy.. after all, and I don't need to remind any of you smart and hip people who visit my site, we are heading into an exciting, pivotal election year, so hold on to your hats because your brains are about to explode with tough questions and even tougher decisions to make. For us Dems, will we vote Hill/Bill or the Obama Phenomena, or will we take a risky turn for the road less travelled and vote in the chasers? Hell if I know. Do you?
Whatever you decide, I thank you again for coming back here and hopefully it brings a few moments of joy to your day. See you all in 2008!
-Love Kate

12-16-07 It's really beginning to look A LOT like Christmas now! The snow started a few minutes past 2:30 am this morning, just as Don was walking in the door back from his gig down in Portland Saturday night. By the time we got up this morning, the stump in the garden was completly covered, and the driveway was gone. I had arranged for my friend Keith from work to come up and give us a hand with plowing, and he was in our driveway by 10:30 am, pushing endless amounts of the white stuff into the yard and really making our lives a lot easier. We weren't planning on going anywhere today anyway.. but it sure is nice to see the bulk of it done. There's probably been another 3 to 4 inches since, and he may come back up the hill tomorrow.. I'm not even sure if I'm going anywhere tomorrow.. but perhaps I could get down to work after all.. Hard to say, we'll have to see if things change over to freezing rain or not.
Meanwhile, we got our Christmas tree yesterday and it is now all trimmed and the cats are enjoying sitting under it. We've got the wood stove cranking and a big ol' pot of our famous chilli bubbling on the stove. The house is filled with the intoxicating smells of pine and clove and simmering chilli, I've got the few gifts I've gotten wrapped, and our health is good. Life is ok, I really can't complain.
12-9-07 It's 5 PM on this Sunday evening, the day has been filled with endless chores for Don and me, and I'm taking a short break to check in. The weekend brought chilly temps and a short visit from bro-Nat and his buddy GMan. They came up to get an early jump on the ski season, taking advantage of one of the 70 open ski trails available on Sunday River mountain. Sometimes I'm so envious of you hardcore skiers.. what a rush it must be. I enjoy hearing the war stories.
Part of Saturday night included a short but spontanious jam session in the basement.. Don and I started with piano/guitar/vocal on a couple of jazzier numbers, and then Nat jumped in for a few more old school rockers. It's always good to get in a jam. Can't wait for the next one.
I am partially through the whole Christmas-gift retrieval thing, and not-so-frantically getting shit together. Don has been working on his day job quite a bit lately, yet still makes us a hot meal everynight and gets to all of his night time gig appointments on time and in good spirits. The wood stove is in full swing, and spare moments are spent removing snow, in anticipation for the next round.. Tomorrow morning is predicted for another one to two inches. It's not getting down the hill in my little Rav4 that worries me, it's getting back up the hill that gives me grief!
Have really been enjoying the new MacBook Pro with the wireless internet down on the main floor these past few weeks. It feels very high tec and hip to work on a laptop. Haven't been checking my emails too much latley, though. Will set that up here soon.
Well, Happy Holdiays then, I guess! Cheers!! Clink Clink right!! Cocoa hugs and peppermint kisses! Holly and clove and roast beef on the stove! Jingle bells!! xoxoxo
12-2-07 Here it is, the month we've all been waiting for! The last one of OH SEVEN. Fantastic then, most of us have made it! And with this month comes the anniversery of this website.. going into year five! Time to renew the domain name.. unless any one out there is interested in buying it from me! Ha ha, I kid again. I know ... still not funny.
Yesterday was plain old nasty frigid, with icy brisk winds to boot! Today it's a bit warmer (23 degrees) and the wind has cut back dramatically. We are expecting our first real snow storm tonight into all day tomorrow. My boss at the Corn Shop has already called to say I don't have to worry about going in tomorrow morning, which will leave us the few good light hours to get out there and shovel the expected 6 inches of fluffy. Weeeeh. We got a few things tucked away and squared off yesterday in anticipation of the snow, and today I've got to get out there and gather some more kindling (a chore that has gotten old, but must be done) as well as tack that old plastic on the porch window so the snow won't fall onto the porch desk. Then, we hunker down 'till morn. Yep, yessir-ah, we hunker down.
REALLY not looking forward to pushing snow around out there tomorrow. Right on cue, the first major storm of the winter hits in the first week of December!
