NOTES APRIL 2005

4-30-05 Saw The Tullamores last night in Portland.

4-25-05 I went over to Mom & Dad's and took a couple of pics this morning. No signs of snow, and look, even Mom's "forcynthia" bush has bloomed!

Don's off to Boston with Pepper to see the Celtics playoff game tonight! Lucky dog.

4-21-05 It doesn't seem like much, but to me, this is a sight for sore eyes!

Yesterday's 80 degree temps really put the stop on most of that snow! Today, it's 40 degrees and windy. We've been taking advantage of this weeks warm temps and cleaning up the birch tree field out back. Wait until you see it in person, it's looking beautiful! Ticks should be here any day now, though. And black flies. Bah!

4-19-05 I'm off to work soon, but I thought I'd give you some images from a few minutes ago. First, the fields are practically snow-free!

And here's the rhubarb rearing it's ugly head.

Don enjoying our morning ritual of walking out back in the fields with a cup of joe.

4-15-05 Sweet sweet spring. It's tax day, and we guess it's been one year to today that we first saw the house we live in now. So much has changed, and we still love it, more than ever. You remember how it looked when we first saw it, and here's how it's looking from the back today.

See? The snow is almost gone.

Here's a robin enjoying the sun.

Don soaking up the sun out front. How sweet it is.

4-13-05 Ah finally, a day off! My first week at work is over, and I just lasted 7 days in a row! Of course, the first 2 days were only 4 hour shifts, but the work is fast and physical, so I sure am glad to have 2 days of rest.

Meanwhile, we've had water seeping in our basement since Saturday night. It's not a disaster, just a nuisance. Luckily, it's not seeping in on the side that our music equipment is set up on, so that's a break. But, we did have to lift all the rugs, the futon, tables, etc., and basically, we can't do a whole lot down there until enough snow melts away that it stops. Don has managed to make daily wood gatherings for nightly fires to help dry the room out, and with the fans and dehumidfier going, all we can do is keep it under control and just wait.

Here's some spring buds from my front garden this morning.

4-11-05 Yes, the snow is really starting to go away, especially after yesterday's 60 degree temps! Today is cool, around 40, and lot's of wind, too. I've got to go stock produce for 5 hours, sigh. Here's a snow meltage photo (and note that Don cleaned up the broken cherry tree yesterday!):

4-9-05 Hi. Haven't quit the new job yet! It's kind of an adjustment getting used to working so late, but I guess I'll get used to it. It's a lot more laid back than my old job at Bread & Circus, but my boss warns me that starting in July it'll get really busy, what with all the summer people and all. Ok, well, that's all for now. Enjoy your day.

4-7-05 My first day at my new job went off well. My first task? Shucking 2 crates filled with corn, then shrinkwrapping them. And off I went from there. Big boxes of lemons, salad tomatoes, cabbage, onions and potatos. I start day 2 of training today, another short shift from 12-4. Here's a picture of the snow melting out back a few minutes ago. (ps Don took the shutters off of the front window yesterday..looks cool!)

4-5-05 This is kind of cool. Yesterday, Don took a photo of the house and then played around with it in Photoshop. Plan for the summer: Take off the shutters, paint the window trims gray, paint the door green, and replace the screen door. Cute, eh?

4-4-05 I finally got a job! I'll be hawking produce down at the local market. Start on Wednesday! I'm so excited to get a regular paycheck again... I've been slacking off too long! It was fun, though. :) Oh, and my new supervisor's name is Don.

4-1-05 Don cut a few leaning birches for firewood today and yesterday.

Dad & Mom ignored all chainsaw safety rules in order to help!
